This unit fit the bill perfectly. It was also at a great price. It was at least $100 cheaper than any place else I could find it.

Taux : - I thought I was getting a good deal on this unit. A colored depth finder and WAAS GPS for less than $500. Boy was I wrong. The depth finder is impossible to adjust as to make anything out. Even with the boat not moving, the screen is filled with noise or false returns. The only way I can use the unit is to turn on the fish-symbols. That clears up the screen, but I am leary about its accuracy. As for the GPS, the base maps are useless. Plan to spend a couple hundred more on detailed maps. On my original unit I was unable to edit or manually create waypoints. The unit would only flash the edit screen, and not stay so I could make entries. I had it replaced by Eagle (took 40 days for responses to my emails and to send a replacement unit) and the new unit does the same thing. I sure wish I would have bought a Megallen handheld and a stand-alone fish finder. I would have spent the same amount and could have used the GPS other than on my boat.

Taux : - I have to give it a five because it is exactly as advertised. It functions as advertised. I use it in 5' to 30' and it when set up (using the menu) as suggested it shows the stumps, brush, and stickups. I think that some would say it doesn't do this or it doesn't do that but COME ON, it only cost 100 bucks. My bottom line on a product is it a good value for the money. Yes this is.

Taux : - Received this device last year; it was easy to install and operate (except that the printing on the on/off button was upside-down). It did everything I expected of it for a while.

Unfortunately, one year and 14-days after purchase (just after the warranty elapsed, of course), it stopped working. Nothing happens when I push the on/off button. Got power to the plug... just doesn't come on.

One very unhappy customer.

Taux : - Easy to install and operate, used mostly for a depth gauge in shallow water great unit for the $'s if you don't need color or a GPS, couldn't ask for more; it does what it is supposed to do, finds the fish and lets me know how deep the water is. Very portable if you dock the boat just unplug it and take it with you. Did a lot of research before choosing one, online and at the local stores. Own a few other Garmin units (GPS's) they are the best IMO.

Taux : - I purchased this Fish Finder to use it on my X-Factor Kayak. I wired it up with a 12vdc 8ah battery and it runs for days on end with out a recharge. This finder is great if you just want the basics, but I think for about $50 more you could get a little nicer unit like the Matrix series. If your looking for something small and cheap this is the way to go. If you want GPS and other features look else where.

Taux : - Just purchased this and installed it in my 235 Conquest Whaler. Will need to continue to test to provide review on how it works.

As far as installation, it went in easy and connects to the Verado Smartcraft system via the nema connection. I like how everything comes in one box (flush mount, transducer, etc.). But!!! Be warned, if your boat is more than 10 feet long, you will need the extension cable for the transducer. Oh and by the way, it is a special order item at boaters world type shops as well. So if you are like me and purchase this GPS and are excited to get to the weekend to get it installed, you will be dissapointed to find out that transducere cable isn't close to being long enough. You will have to special order from your shop or buy online and wait another week to use the sonar.

Seriously...up the price by 5 bucks and include the longer cable. This was a complete dissapointment considering the amount spent for this unit.

I will report back on the functional capability

Taux : - Some early thoughts on this unit. First of all, Amazon.com had a competative price, and offered the extended warranty much cheaper than other venders. Fast and reliable shipping. I liked this unit for it's features, as well as the fact that it was a complete package, no having to buy a black box, sounder, software, anything. The only extras I purchased were the mapping software and card reader, and the ram mount for mounting to my pedistal. I also purchased a ram mount for the gps, but this isn't necessary if you have a flat surface to mount it on.

The unit is well packaged on arrival, with everything needed for an in dash installation. My problem was I was doing a pedistal mount on a sailboat, and the power/data cord is way too short. Since they don't offer a longer cord, I ended up making my own "black box" to hide the splices. The other thing you shoud realize is that there will be a lot of cords running to the unit. The power cord, NMEA 183 and 2000 cords, and the sounder cable. Makes a tidy installation somewhat challenging. The other problem with the installation is that the ends of the cords with their caps mean that you will be drilling LARGE holes in your hull if you have to bring them through a bulkhead. That said, the installation is straight forward.

I rigged a 12 volt power supply at home, so I could play with the unit. The simulation mode works well, and lets you see the features and get used to the menu. I find it a little awkward to have the curser key at the top, and the enter key at the bottom. They would have done well to put an enter key in the middle of the curser key, it would really speed up entry. The gps module settles very quickly. The Nautipath software is nice, with good information in pop up icons that you access by putting the curser over them and hitting the waypoint key. One thing I have run into is that as you zoom in on the map, you loose the shaded coloring in the shallow water, and the contrast between the land and water is minimal, which makes it harder to read the chart.

I installed the transducer as a shoot through the hull using silicon caulk rather than the epoxy they recommend. I did install the transom bracket inside the hull to provide additional support. I hooked up the unit before I set the transducer in the silicon, and then pushed the transducer into the silicon and checked the performance before it had a chance to set. It worked very well. I used silicon instead of epoxy because the transducer manufacturer recommends it. That, and it will be easier to move or replace if needed.

The NMEA 2000 bus is going to be great. This is definately the way of the future. I was attracted to this unit because it was also backward compatable with NMEA 0183. I have two instruments that I wanted to hook up to the unit, my autopilot, and my dash mount units. Both accepted the older NMEA data without a hitch. One question tech support couldn't answer was whether the unit will take data from a 0183 unit and relay it to another 0183 unit. I would like to have my wind data sent to my autopilot, which allows it to sail to wind. We will have to wait and see if that happens.

So I would give the unit, hardware, and installation 5 stars, but here is the catch. Don't even think you are going to get a reply from Lowrance if you email a question to them. I have written 3 times, twice I got an auto reply that they had received the email, but have had ZERO replies to my questions. So, the second option is to call them. Well, set aside a couple of hours, first, you will be lucky to get through to them, and then you will be on hold so long, you will be going insane from their stupid music on hold. When I did get through, tech support was helpful and knowledgable. I just think it should be easier to get through to them than getting an audience with the Pope. Hopefully they will address this problem in the near future.

I will be interested in hearing others comments on this unit. I will keep you posted as I get more experience with it.

Taux : - Bought the Humminbird 737 for the bow of my new boat because of the piice and quad transducer. I couldn't afford a color fishfinder and I wanted to put the transducer on the trollong motor but the quad that came with it was designed for a transom mount. Called the Humminbird 1-800 number and they exchanged it FREE OF CHARGE for the quad which mounts on the trolling motor. I am very satisfied with the resolution and being able to double my under-the-boat viewing area with the quad. It has helped me locate more bass and structure as well as being able to navigate the edges of weed lines.

Taux : - So far so good with this product. I haven't quite learned how to use it because the instructions are quite extensive but it seems to work well. The only complaint I have so far is that once you remove the unit from the base it looses all the memory for presets. I'm sure there is a way to save it to a simm card or something else but I haven't had the time to read up on it.

Simply connect the RD30 to our new Furuno Smart Sensor and you are ready to go! The new Furuno Smart Sensor is an ingeniously engineered depth sensor, entirely encased within its own transducer housing. The Smart Sensor connects directly to the RD30 display, via the NMEA data port, without requiring any additional processor or junction box. Power is supplied to the Smart Sensor from the connected display. The Smart Sensor operates at 235kHz. This frequency was chosen for its excellent ability to provide solid performance at both high speeds and in very shallow depths. Additionally, the 235kHz frequency will not interfere with other Furuno echo sounding equipment, including any products running at 200kHz.

Furuno's DFF1 is a new network sounder featuring Furuno Digital Filter (FDF) Technology designed for use with NavNet and NavNet vx2. This new digital Network Sounder can turn any NavNet display into a powerful, dual-frequency digital fish finder. The compact network sounder unit connects directly to a NavNet display or an Ethernet hub with a single Ethernet cable. If it is connected to an Ethernet hub that has multiple displays attached, each of those displays will have access to the Network Sounder.

The sounder itself has a selectable 600W or 1kW output power. You may choose LF (50kHz), HF (200kHz) or both at the touch of a key and obtain detailed echoes of bottom structure and fish using range scales of up to 5,000 ft. And because the Network Sounder is used on a NavNet display, you will also be able to use its Radar and Chart Plotter features depending on which unit you have.

I have now sent this unit back for repair 3 times. The worst part is the last time they sent me a reconditioned unit other than my own and I'm getting the same problem. Taux : - I purchased a used Humminbird ICE 55 fish locator which did not have the soft carry bag. It was nice to find one on Amazon at a discount, plus I have $25 in points on my Amazon.com Visa card, so it is only $22.00. I will feel better about transporting my locator when I have the soft bag to protect it. Last weekend we portaged a woods to go to a remote lake with snowmobiles and the locator had a rough ride in the sled with the equipment. If you have the Ice 45 or the Ice 35, you really should get one of these bags to protect your locator. It's great that it has a zipper opening in the back for charging the battery. Also, there are 2 side pouches for storing the battery charger and other gear.

Taux : - Humminbird has done it again. The 343C Portable performed remarkebly well. The LCD screen was clear and display was crisp. The unit is loaded with features.
The suction cup transducer and 15' cord mounted effortlessly to the bottom of my Clacka Craft fiberglass drift boat.
Water temperatures were 34 degrees but this had no impact on the suction cups ability to stick to the surface.
The 343C carrying case provides a stable base and may be placed practically anywhere on your boat without fear of the unit tipping over.
I highly recommend this unit to folks with any boat, canoe and cayak.

Taux : - I am not writing a review for this exact product, but am for a similar one. It failed because of a plastic part that broke. Humminbird will not allow me to purchase a replacement part. The only concession they will make is that if I ship the unit to them they will repair it at approximately 50% of replacement cost. I consider that a bum deal and totally unacceptable. Because of their failure to provide even a minimum level of decent product service I've bought my last Humminbird product.

Taux : - Used unit for roughly 3-months in my Parker 2120 sport cabin. Installation of the transom mount tranducer and speed sensor were not very difficult, but plan angles, location and wire-runs very carefully. Each has its own cable, with a connector that plugs into the back of the LMS-525C instrument. If you have to drill holes to run your cables, the pilot hole will be a rather large 7/8", so plan carefully as I said. I don't like putting holes in a wood core transom that large, so ran my lines neatly above the transom. Since I have an outboard engine, one really needs to look hard to see the cables. The installation guide is fair at best, but more than adequate; just read twice before proceeding! As for the LMS-525C, installation was fairly easy, but also requires a thoughful plan for viewing angle and running your connections, all of which plug into the lower rear of the unit. As far as performance is concerned, I am very satisfied. The transducer supplied works well in most sea conditions at all speeds that I can run in my boat. On occassion, in heavy seas, the transducer will loose contact with the sea floor with loss of depth transmission. However, once contact is re-established, depth transmission is immediately regained. The depth on the display screen will flash immediately, so you will know if this condition exists. However, this happens infrequently, thus I don't consider it a safety issue or a problem, just thought I'd mention. Prop wash has never impacted my unit. All features work as advertied, but paging through the numerous menu options will take getting used to. Overall, the instructions were reasonable. I do use the NMEA 0183 output, and found tech support helpful in linking to a distress locator feature in my Raymarine VHF radio. This year I am installing an autopilot and expect to tie-in NMEA connections as well. So far, I am very satisfied with my unit, but can't speak to its longevity yet. For the price, do your research in this regard. My inability to opine on this point is why I only gave 4-stars. Good luck!

Taux : - I have only had the oppertunity to test this item for ice fishing, but from what i have seen its awsome.The see thru ICE option is incredible and very impressive.A little bit of water on the ice from a cup or bottle and your looking straight thru 3 feet of ice at the fish.Very nice size,portable.The sonar cable plugs in to the unit extremely hard so once its plugged in leave it there.Only complaint is that any large object on the bottom shows up as 3 diff sixe rocks,small/medium/Large,even if its a junked car,lol,shows as a Rock,or a tree trunk snag shows as a rock.Other then that i give it a 5 but for crappy bottom imagery i give it 4 out of 5

Taux : - This is a simple fishfinder that finds fish. Bottom line. And isn't that what a fish finder is all about. I can see a 1/2 o.z. jig at 120 feet with this exact model. It bugs me when people write reviews that just say,"It sucks". What sucks (besides your stupid review)? Bottom line, try finding one for under 140.00 (slim chance). this is a good fish finder for the entry level fisherman who has never used electronics.
